Chapter Chapter 14 in Mechanisms for Long-Term Innovation, 2022, pp 283-307 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, based on the results of the analysis in the previous chapters, we present a descriptive model to conceptually understand the process of long-term continuation of new technology and new business development under four uncertainties. The chapter develops an explanation that the four factors, government policy support, emergence of breakthrough technologies, initial markets, and company-specific rationales, acted in a complementary manner to each other to enable the continuation of the development of new technologies and new business fields that could not be actualized with a simple profit motive. We develop an explanation of how this has been achieved.
