A chapter in World Economy and International Business, 2023, pp 439-453 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Achievements and challenges of economic development, as well as patterns of participation in the global economy of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries, are analysed. The chapter argues that partial industrialisation, weakness of local innovation systems, excessive dependence on foreign investment and involvement in the global value chains of Asian developed economies prevent ASEAN countries from becoming an independent centres of the world economy.
