China in the World-System: Strategic Pathways to 2100
Huw McKay
Chapter Chapter 10 in The Strategic Logic of China’s Economy, 2024, pp 281-303 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract China’s future strategic pathway and its consequent place in the world-system over the remainder of the twenty-first century is highly uncertain. While the DST has substantial and unique powers as a tool of prediction over long time horizons, it feels imprudent at this fluid moment in history to deploy those tools to construct a single path or choice of (anti) strategic mix. Rather, consistent with the emerging discipline of foresight, this work will conclude by presenting a suite of divergent put plausible strategic pathways composed within the DST tradition as a way of framing, as opposed to resolving, the uncertainty. These pathways are the culmination of all that has come before.
