Challenges in Construction

Bruno de Carvalho Matos ()

Chapter Chapter 3 in Modern Construction, 2025, pp 41-53 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The construction industry faces a complex array of challenges shaped by economic, political, technological, and social forces. Globalization, resource constraints, regulatory pressures, and rapid digital transformation have intensified both competition and uncertainty. Cyclical issues tied to market fluctuations coexist with structural challenges such as productivity gaps, labor shortages, environmental impact, and the need for innovation.Addressing these factors requires balancing short-term resilience with long-term sustainability. Understanding these dynamics provides a foundation for developing strategies that enhance the industry’s stability, adaptability, and global competitiveness.
