Chapter 3 in Financial Stability and Financial Shocks, 2026, pp 63-86 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter delves into the evolution of financial crisis definitions, tracing the development of understanding these critical events. The “doom loop” of financial crises is explored, highlighting the interconnected and reinforcing nature of crisis dynamics. The causes of financial crises are thoroughly shown. The chapter includes examples of past financial crises, offering valuable insights into historical instances and their ramifications. Special attention is given to banking crises and their underlying causes, with a focus on the bank run phenomenon and its implications for financial stability. Various measures for crisis resolution are analyzed. Emergency measures and long-term strategies are explored to better understand potential solutions.
