Abstract: Abstract In the last 45 years, the number of natural disasters has increased constantly, affecting 6.6 billion people worldwide and causing the deaths of 3.2 million (EM-DAT 2015). Climate change is likely to further escalate the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. Developing countries are particularly vulnerable to these effects as the damage caused by natural disasters affects their development processes, with significant impacts on poor households.
