A chapter in Russia and the European Union, 2017, pp 47-53 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The purpose of the article is to verify the hypothesis of interdependence between the results of innovative activities and type of economic culture. The types of economic culture are the following: hedonistic—characterized by increased level of consumption as to the income level, and ascetic—within which consumption is small as compared to income. Analysis of quantitative parameters of innovational development of Russian regions allows concluding on presence of vivid interdependence between them and types of economic culture. The results of analysis of parameters of innovative activities and types of culture showed that with all other things equal, the regions with hedonistic type of economic culture have weak perspectives of innovational development, are subject to crisis influence, and are characterized by weak innovative activities in the period of favorable economic situation. The regions with hedonistic type of economic culture are most active in innovational sphere—especially, in combination with high level of economic development. Well-balanced—as to combination of features of hedonistic and ascetic culture—regions are inhomogeneous group with attributes of dynamic instability of parameters of innovative activities. The level of development of innovative activities in the regions with well-balanced type of economic culture is low. The given results allow passing to the search for tools of institutional correction for activation of innovative activities.
