Abstract:
Abstract The paper focuses on current worldwide field trials regarding ENUM. ENUM is a transformation procedure that helps to transform E.164 numbers into an internet domain and vice versa. The paper addresses the basic technical features of ENUM, it gives an overview of the objectives, the time schedule, the stakeholders and the financing schemes of the ENUM field trials, it analyses DNS concepts and their requirements for the implementation of ENUM, it tackles the ENUM service potential, it addresses IT-security issues and ENUM specific data protection problems and it highlights the requirements for the future utilisation of ENUM.
