Chapter Chapter 16 in The Kyoto Post-COVID Manifesto For Global Economics, 2022, pp 291-297 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Economic model we have created is unsustainable and transition to a more sustainable economy and society is unavoidable. The way we manage our natural resources to a large extend determines, on one hand, our economic success and, on the other, influences climate, biodiversity and pollution challenges. Decoupling economic growth from resource use and environmental impacts is central ingredient of the necessary change in the way we produce and consume. Circular economy should be seen as an instrument to deliver decoupling in practice and as a part of the bigger picture of economic, societal and cultural transformation needed to implement the SDGs. Complexity and scale of the challenges requires more systemic approaches as well as new forms of collaboration, including on a global level.
