Abstract:
Abstract In this June 2021 interview, Uwe Schulte speaks with Kim Dabbs, Global Director of Social Innovation at Steelcase, about the company’s commitment to social innovation and its impact on business. Dabbs, a social entrepreneur and advocate, highlights her journey rooted in purpose and passion, emphasizing the role of community engagement in driving social innovation. Steelcase, known for creating innovative work environments, integrates social impact into its business model. Dabbs explains their approach to social innovation, including the importance of designing with the community and using frameworks like design thinking to ensure equitable access to education and opportunities. She shares examples such as Camp Ignite in rural Romania, which empowers girls through education. Dabbs also discusses the challenges and strategies of maintaining a global movement, the alignment of social innovation with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the need for transparency, trust, and collective action to foster a purpose-driven corporate culture.
