A chapter in Global Perspectives on Climate Change, Inequality, and Multinational Corporations, 2025, pp 227-260 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines the transformative potential of AI in advancing SDG 7 to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all in Africa. A review of extant literature establishes a foundation for comprehending the global progression of AI technologies and their specific applications in this industry. The chapter elucidates Africa’s distinctive challenges and opportunities and contrasts the continent’s AI adoption rates in renewable energy with those of other regions. Central to this discourse is the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) case study, which exemplifies the integration of AI into renewable energy strategies.
