Chapter Chapter 2 in Corporate Digital Responsibility, 2021, pp 53-83 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter covers different aspects of the relationship between digitalization and sustainability. The first section begins with sustainability opportunities and risks of digital technology in the dimensions of ecology, economy, and society. This is followed by an explanation of the positive societal and sustainability contributions of digitalization and the “undesirable side effects” that are apparent today already. These “side effects” arise from societal demands. They are first formulated concisely and then background information is provided on each. In some cases, these are newly emerging or increasingly important societal demands that are being placed on digital or digitizing companies.
