Chapter Chapter 2 in The Liberation of the Serfs, 2012, pp 3-6 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This paper is devoted to the description analysis of one of the most unusual forms of unfree labour, that of sold soldiers who were drafted by their princes and sold in order to fight in foreign wars. They were not mercenaries, who engaged in their risky work for the compensation granted and the bounty harvested. Rather, these soldiers went to war on account of their princes, who were paid for their services.
