Abstract: Abstract When List heard about the scathing decision of the criminal court, he decided to elude the execution of his sentence and fled to Strasbourg in the hope of rehabilitating himself there. His wife Karoline, her son Karl Neidhard and their children Emilie and Oskar first remained in Stuttgart. Karoline was afraid of the risks involved in an attempt to escape, especially because she was expecting another child and her health was very bad (Fig. 2.1).
