Chapter Chapter 25 in Daily Life in Classical Athens, 2024, pp 289-293 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter focuses on the role that religion played in the Athenian everyday life. It describes the famous Great Panathenaea festival, in Greek religion, an annual Athenian festival of great importance. It was eventually celebrated every fourth year with great splendor, probably in rivalry to the Olympic Games. It also analyzes the religious consciousness of the Athenians and the role of priests and priestesses in the related religious procedures in Athens.
