Abstract:
Abstract The age of digitalization and innovation has hit the health care sector like a lightning bolt. Especially the process of dealing with the corona crisis has shown the need for digital communication, digital networking, telemedicine, and more. The influence of digitalization in health care is stronger than ever. Dentistry is already undergoing a digitalization process. The digital workflow starts with paperless clinics, meaning the whole documentation and patient management system is digitally driven. Dental imprints can be taken with an oral surface scanner, then the captured data can be optimized on-screen and sent to a CAD-CAM center, or milled in the clinic’s own laboratory (using systems such as Cerec from Sirona or Tizian from Schütz Dental Group). Orthodontic treatment is also digitalized, and information for dental lab technicians can be transferred digitally too. Radiology and imaging services in a dental practice are usually digital, so there is no need to search for X-rays in filing cabinets, and the pictures are available quickly and easily on the servers.
