Chapter 12 in The Future (R)Evolution of the Office Workspace, 2025, pp 189-230 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Management has a critical role in embracing and shaping the hybrid workplace model, which is still in its developmental stages. This model, integral to future work design, demands a long-term strategic approach, as it will outlast current management and significantly impact an organisation’s success in a digitalised world. The hybrid workplace requires collaboration among HR, IT, and facilities management, with some organisations appointing a Chief Hybrid Officer to oversee its development. The hybrid model’s success hinges on management’s ability to adapt and ensure a workplace that caters to employees’ preferences, fostering productivity, engagement, and well-being. As employees increasingly influence workplace models, especially in competitive job markets, organisations must prioritise flexibility to attract and retain talent. The hybrid workplace model is not just about offering remote work; it involves a strategic balance between autonomy and structured collaboration, tailored to individual and organisational needs. Management must also consider various factors, such as communication, culture, digital dexterity, and employee well-being, to create a sustainable hybrid environment. As this model evolves, the emphasis will be on agility, continuous learning, and aligning work processes to ensure long-term organisational success.
