A chapter in Diversify or Die, 2026, pp 43-56 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, the author examines how authentic integration with esports can serve as a diversification strategy to support the long-term viability of traditional sports. Tracing the evolution of esports across three distinct eras, the author highlights how collaborations with game developers and the creation of futuristic demonstration formats offer sports stakeholders innovative pathways for growth. These partnerships enable the development of new experiences, foster emerging communities, and introduce imaginative ways of engaging with sport that align with shifting consumer expectations. The author argues that such integrations are not merely experimental but essential for sports organizations seeking to remain relevant and sustainable in a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape.
