Chapter 6 in Leading Innovation, 2026, pp 173-197 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Free space for innovation is not created solely through everyday leadership practices, it is also embedded in the structural and procedural design of organisations. In line with the preceding chapters, free space is understood here as a concrete manifestation of organisational freedom that enables experimentation, reflection and alternative courses of action within defined boundaries. The focus of this chapter is therefore on the design of innovation-promoting structures and processes, as well as on the role of open and closed leadership approaches in shaping such free spaces.
