Chapter 1 in Creating Shared Value, 2026, pp 1-32 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Chapter 1 introduces the foundations of stakeholder value creation through innovation. A simple illustration—the value stick—visualizes the fundamental insight that the purpose of businesses is to create value for customers and other stakeholders through innovation, with profit being the outcome of this process. Two examples—a fictitious case demonstrating the calculation of stakeholder value and profit, and the “IBM case”—are used to illustrate and discuss the dynamics and challenges of stakeholder value creation and value distribution in modern platform-based structures.
