Chapter 2 in Organizational Resilience in Action, 2025, pp 5-13 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The word resilience is derived from Latin and means something like “to rebound” or “to bounce back.” The word is used in many different ways, making it difficult to come up with a universal definition. Discussions of resilience can be found, for instance, in materials engineering, psychology, and sociology. But what characterizes resilient companies? In recent years, we have witnessed companies around the world struggling against serious disruptions. They have enjoyed varying success in defending themselves against the financial crisis resulting from the Lehman bankruptcy (2008), the Euro crisis (2010), Brexit (2016–2020), and the corona pandemic in 2020.
