Chapter Chapter 2 in Producing Green Knowledge and Innovation, 2022, pp 25-39 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The role of a green university is to produce green knowledge and innovation needed for sustainable development. Consequently, the output of a green university, human capital, becomes ethical when producing with natural capital. It blends with the other types of capital such as economic capital, information and social capital, and political and legal capital of the political system. As a result, the entire knowledge and innovation system becomes green knowledge and innovation. However, Scope which determines the boundaries for green knowledge and innovation at universities is not yet clearly defined. However, universities face several challenges such as isomorphism, legitimacy, and institutional logic when evolving from the conventional scope of knowledge and innovation to green knowledge and innovation. Nonetheless, two universal packages, the 2030 Agenda for 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2016 Paris Climate Agreement, together with the Nationally determined contribution, have legitimately mandated and paved the way to the scope for the production of green knowledge and innovation.
