Abstract: Abstract This chapter provides an overview of the research on the relationship between product innovation (especially new product development or NPD) and product safety performance. Few empirical studies investigated the issue of product safety in product innovation. Most of the product safety management literature is prescriptive and focuses on the technical aspects of safety management such as hazard analysis and risk analysis. In this chapter, we clarify the relationships between product safety strategy, product safety culture, concurrent engineering (CE), the new product development (NPD) process, and product safety performance.
