Chapter Chapter 13 in Women’s Entrepreneurship and Economics, 2012, pp 191-209 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The advances made by western societies throughout the twentieth century and even more in the twenty-first have been channeled toward progress and change in different contexts, including those that attempt to reduce the inequalities existing between men and women. Different laws have been enacted in various countries to act as vehicles for achieving a certain degree of equality on all agendas. However, the hard fact is that in different spheres, countries, and cultures, the establishment of equal rights and opportunities between men and women is far from reality. We decided to reflect on the importance of education for women in general and university education in particular as a means of achieving better working conditions in different job categories. Issues related to women’s influence in the labor market are also approached, including their influence in the economic crisis, with reference to the different continents and especially western countries.
