Chapter Chapter 1 in Public Debt Management, 2016, pp 1-7 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Efficient debt management implies minimizing the cost of borrowing for the government, considering the risks. In India, the responsibility of public debt management is divided between the Central and state governments, and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). In this chapter, briefly, the origins of debt management and its significance, globally and domestically, are discussed. The logic for having the need for this book, and the summary of chapter scheme, summarizing main ideas in each of the next eight chapters as well as the round table are presented.
