Chapter Chapter 6 in Inequity in Indian Health Care, 2017, pp 149-174 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, we look into demand elasticities for public and private health care in India. We analyse using data from National Family Health Survey (NFHS). We cover all India and 13 Indian states (including eight north-eastern states and five major Indian states across rich-, poor- and middle-income categories) using the household survey data from NFHs. We estimate healthcare demand elasticities across these states and with respect to availability, quality and socio-economic status both in rural as well as urban areas of the states covered in the analysis. We also look into inequities that are estimated using these healthcare demand elasticities.
