Chapter Chapter 5 in India and the Knowledge Economy, 2019, pp 281-333 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Empowerment is fundamental to allowing all in society to participate in, and share in the benefits of a knowledge economy. The focus in this chapter is on female empowerment. A comprehensive literature search is undertaken around a number of dimensions of female entrepreneurship pertaining to labour force participation, social factors, access to finance and entrepreneurship among others. A Gender Knowledge Footprint is developed and presented, comparing Indian females with males and across BRIC countries. The analysis finds that females do not have anywhere near the opportunity to embrace the knowledge economy compared to males. A number of strategies to enhance female empowerment are presented.
