Abstract:
Abstract This paper develops a macro-theoretic framework suitable for India to examine the impact that the outbreak of COVID-19 is likely to produce on the land holding of the small producers. It shows that the occurrence of the pandemic, the restrictions and the lockdown it brings about, the distress and the penury it causes and the switch from offline to online purchase of goods and services it induces generates a process that leads to a permanent, large and cumulative loss of land by the small producers to the capitalists.
