Chapter Chapter 1 in Benchmarking with DEA, SFA, and R, 2011, pp 1-22 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter gives a overview of the questions and methods covered in this book. What is the idea of efficiency analyses and benchmarking? Why do we benchmark? What are the state–of–the–art methods that we shall discuss in this book? The chapter is mainly conceptual and can be read with a minimum of technical skills. The idea is to get an elementary and intuitive introduction to the subject. Still, to get a flavor of the approach of the book, we do formalize a few simple production economic models.
