Chapter Chapter 6 in Engineering Risk and Finance, 2013, pp 195-221 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The purpose of this chapter is to introduce traditional approaches to the measurement of risk applied to financial and risk engineering problems. These approaches are gradually challenged by a growing sophistication, a greater access to data and axiomatic foundations and metrics to value and price risk. Financial approaches are contributing to risk practice by using money as a common metric to value risk and performance. While this chapter focuses on risk measurement subsequent Chaps. 7–10 will focus on risk valuation, risk economics and the economics of uncertainty.
