Abstract:
Abstract The existence of weather systems has two major effects on modeling a hazmat transportation system. First, it may change the accident probabilities and the traveling parameters (e.g., travel speed); and second, it may affect the modeling of the consequences of an accident (e.g., the dispersion of pollutants). Therefore, weather systems can dynamically affect the key parameters to be considered in hazmat route analysis and selection: accident probability, risk, equity and cost. This chapter reviews significant research on modeling the transportation of hazardous materials in the presence of weather systems.
