Chapter Chapter 2 in Rankings and Decisions in Engineering, 2022, pp 17-32 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter formally defines the ranking aggregation problem, focusing the attention on the characteristic input and output data. Regarding input data, a mathematical definition of the concept of ranking is provided, identifying the most common ranking types (e.g., linear, partial, and incomplete); then, typical ways of establishing a hierarchy of experts in the ranking aggregation problem are illustrated. Regarding the output data, the most common types of collective judgments are identified, ranging from the most straightforward (e.g., incomplete object rankings) to the most complex ones (e.g., object scalings).
