Chapter Chapter 10 in Normalization of Multidimensional Data for Multi-Criteria Decision Making Problems, 2023, pp 195-220 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter provides an overview and analysis of various target criteria normalization procedures. For rank-based MCDM models, the normalization of the indicators of all criteria—benefit, cost, and target criteria—should be consistent with each other in order to exclude the priority of the normalized values of individual criteria during their further aggregation. If the Sum method is used to normalize the benefit attributes, then the inverse iSum (ReS-algorithm) should be applied for the cost criteria, and the agreed tSum should be applied for the target attributes. This eliminates the priority of the normalized values of individual criteria in their further aggregation. This ensures an equal contribution of the normalized values of each of the criteria to the integral performance indicator. The author proposes a generalization of normalization methods for target criteria, which ensures agreement with the main linear methods for normalizing benefit attributes and cost attributes.
