Chapter 1 in Applications of Location Analysis, 2015, pp 1-22 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Location choices are as old as mankind. Individuals have always chosen their place of residence, starting with the appropriate cave, which would have to be in reasonable proximity to places in which food, and later work, could be found). Municipalities located central places to conduct business, such as the Greek agora or the Roman forum (or arenas for gladiator fights, for that matter), while leaders of countries located places for their administration, their armies, &, eventually, their burial sites (e.g., pyramids).
