Chapter 3 in Organizations and Knowledge Management, 2025, pp 59-78 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter analyzes a framework for organizational learning that aids in the strategic management process. Organizational learning can be classified into two strategically important categories: external and internal. These categories encompass complementary processes. External learning emphasizes four strategically important areas of the organizational landscape: customers, competitors, networks, and institutions. Internal learning encompasses various types, including individual, intra-functional, inter-functional, and multilevel learning. Consequently, a key responsibility of strategic management is to guide the organizational learning process. This involves recognizing and distributing resources to essential areas of learning within the organization, which are vital for developing the capabilities required to attain a sustainable competitive edge.
