Chapter Chapter 3 in Efficiency and Equity in Welfare Economics, 2013, pp 17-28 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Inequality and poverty indexes serve many purposes. An important one discussed here is allowing the P.A. to assess the appropriateness of tax and subsidy schemes in order to reduce inequality without significantly influencing social welfare. Another important purpose is to reduce poverty without threatening the level of social welfare. In this chapter inequality, and subsequently poverty, will be considered.
