Abstract:
Abstract The employment interview is one of the most common methods for evaluating applicants during the hiring process. Technological developments and the digitization of the workplace have led to a diversification of interview formats, including technology-mediated interviews, such as videoconferences and digital interviews (several times with the use of AI tools for analysis purposes), in addition to traditional in-person interviews. This paper aims to reveal applicants’ perceptions of innovativeness and employee-oriented HR approach, as a result of the different types of employee hiring interviews (face-to-face, videoconference, and digital). Additionally, this empirical study investigates whether applicants’ perceptions of an organization's culture, in terms of its focus on innovation and employees, could improve their overall perception of employer’s attractiveness. 234 applicants who had participated in employee hiring interviews within the last three months comprised the study sample. Multivariate analysis of variance and structural equation modeling were used to test the research hypotheses. Based on these findings, the paper offers recommendations for human resource (HR) managers on how to take advantage of positive signaling effects, while decreasing the negative effects associated with hiring methods.
