Abstract:
Abstract Between 1997 and 1998, the Conselho Interministerial do Açúcar e do Álcool (CIMA, Inter-Ministerial Council on Sugar and Ethanol) took a number of measures relating to inventory purchases of ethanol by the government, including “guaranteeing” operations (loans for which ethanol stocks were used as collateral), providing financial support for the cultivation of sugarcane and the production of fuel ethanol, and establishing incentives to increase the demand for fuel ethanol.
