Abstract: Abstract The task of planning photovoltaic power plants is far from trivial. This complex optimization problem combines aspects of placement problems and constraint satisfaction problems, and several interdependent goals must be considered. This paper describes the main issues of the design task and it contains an algorithmic approach to deal with the multicriterial aspects. We decompose the planning process into several subproblems, which can be solved with specialized fast heuristics. In addition, we provide a decision support concept to allow the engineer to intuitively navigate on the multidimensional solution set.
