Abstract: Abstract Different alternatives exist for installation of scrap treatment systems in order to comply with the German law on discarded electronic equipment. Thus, the aim of this contribution is to compare various treatment alternatives considering economic but also ecological, technical, infrastructural, and social objectives. The MADM-method PROMETHEE is used for the evaluation of these systems. Since many relevant evaluation attributes depend on short-term decisions within a given infrastructure, these decisions are anticipated based on activity based optimization models. Depending on the operation of the treatment systems, either an economic efficient solution applying a LP-model or a sustainable solution applying Weighted Goal Programming (WGP) is calculated.
