Unexpected Positive Effects of Complexity on Performance in Multiple Criteria Setups

Abstract: Abstract The paper analyses the effect of organisational design elements on the level of achieved performance and speed of performance improvement in multiple criteria decision making setups. The analysis is based on an agent based simulation approach. Especially, we model multi criteria decision making as adaptive walk on multiple NK fitness landscapes with different levels of complexity. The results indicate that achieved performance and speed of performance improvement subtly depend on complexity and organisational design elements. The results might throw some new light on complexity. Complexity turns out to affect performance contribution and speed of performance improvement positively in some setups, with respect to multiple objectives.
