Chapter Chapter 16 in Innovation in Sustainable Management and Entrepreneurship, 2020, pp 219-226 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The present linear economic system needs to be redesigned in order to protect the ecosystems and ensure a sustainable integration of resources. One of the industries that have raised concerns in the last years due to its increasing inefficient use of resources and negative impact on the environment is the fashion industry. Sustainability and transparency have become increasingly important as a response to the consumers’ and companies’ growing concerns in mitigating their impact on the environment. The article describes one of such companies that has managed, through its business model, to disrupt the traditional business modus operandi. The research centers around how the business of The RealReal successfully operates through the application of certain principles of the circular economy.
