Abstract:
Abstract In Ecuador, the wood industry is one of the most significant sectors in the national and international market. The high quality and the use of domestic wood for manufacturing can potentially lead to promising outcomes. Nevertheless, there is a lack of technology implementation, favorable policies, standardization, et cetera. To gain insight Ecuadorian SMEs that operate in the wood sector, we investigated how this industry is presented, and which are the main contributions to the economy. To achieve these, we observed the manufacturing process inside an Ecuadorian SME. A survey with 18 employees within the enterprise was conducted. Based on the results, there is a lack of process standardization. Our findings were a useful aid for identifying the process stages where improvement is needed. Therefore, in the end, we propose a new approach to process standardization.
