Abstract:
Abstract The media is a complicated marketplace falling under not only political contemplations but also “free market” regulations and relevant competition rules. The existing regulatory framework often become obsolete as the media enters the digital era. This paper by using the case of Greece aims to highlight the issues related to the existing regulatory framework on competition. It argues that in the era of digital transition competition policy does not work effectively in terms of its main objectives, namely, promoting choice, entering markets, and tackling dominance, and in this new era policy makers should take into consideration the relevant regulations and developments that have taken place in the telecommunications sector. To do this it uses examples from the Greek case.
