Chapter Chapter 46 in Advances in Empirical Economic Research, 2023, pp 743-761 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter aims to analyze the effects of social protection levels on welfare goals, specifically on the reduction of inequality and poverty. It is generally argued that these social objectives are directly related to the way governments design their social policies and protection systems, and indirectly to economic growth, i.e., growth is a means to these ends rather than an end in itself. To verify this relationship, we will conduct an empirical study looking at the 15 economies that joined the European Union before its enlargement in 2004.
