Abstract:
Abstract This study concerns the relationship between coastal tourism and sustainable development. The main objective of the study was to investigate the conditions for the development of sustainable coastal tourism in the seaside town of Xylokastro, in the regional unit of Corinth, Region of Peloponnese, and to assess the opinion of its tourists/visitors. In order to answer the paper’s main research questions and to investigate the conditions and possibilities of developing sustainable coastal tourism in the region, a survey was conducted aimed at tourists/visitors of the region. The research was carried out using a specially designed questionnaire. The research was carried out between July and August 2022. One of the most important conclusions reached is that in order to ensure the development of a model of sustainable coastal tourism in the city of Xylokastro, targeted strategies should be implemented, along with the establishment of tourism activity in the area, in order to manage the region’s environmental resources, highlighting the monuments of cultural heritage as well as its social and economic development.
