Innovation Clusters as a Factor of Sustainable Territorial Development in the Context of Digital Transformation

Abstract: Abstract The article clarifies the economic essence and development models of innovation clusters as a key spatial and sectoral form of production integration. The aim of the study is to adapt the cluster concept to the tasks of sustainable territorial development in the context of digital transformation trends. The methodological basis of the work is the analysis of current scientific research devoted to the problems of sustainable development and clustering of production. The article considers a gradual change of innovation processes and the role of innovation, which made it possible to identify the innovative paradigm of sustainable territorial development. The trends and processes underlying the innovative paradigm of sustainable territorial development form the scientific, educational, industrial, technological, spatial, and digital aspects of sustainable development. The results show the epistemological consistency of the sustainability and innovativeness of the territorial development in modern economic conditions. The paper contains a refined definition and graphical interpretation of sustainable development in relation to the economic development of territories. The innovative multicluster is proposed as a model for the development of innovative clusters, corresponding to the modern tasks of sustainable territorial development. The models of the cluster types highlighted in the work is based on the intersection of the following factors: spatial concentration of production, institutional environment, innovative business networks, and digital environment. The article proposes the model of an innovative hypercluster, which is the development of innovative multicluster model in a digital economy. The paper defines the potential directions of practical application of the proposed models in the framework of sustainable territorial development. The results complement the scientific concept of the cluster and the theoretical foundations of sustainable territorial development.
