Abstract: Abstract In recent years, the automation of production processes has become increasingly in demand and widely used. However along with the increase in automation, the requirements for energy efficiency of production are also increasing. Issues related to the problems of energy efficiency of automated production are relevant and important in the current conditions of industrialisation. This topic reflects the problems associated with the efficient use of energy in the process of automated production. Research on this topic identifies and analyses the problems associated with the lack of energy efficiency in automated manufacturing. This may include problems of energy losses in transmission, inefficient use of energy in the operation of equipment and problems associated with the selection and configuration of automation systems. The digitalisation of business management imposes its own requirements and constraints. But the challenges of energy saving, emission reduction and sustainable development are still relevant and, on the contrary, are becoming increasingly important worldwide. The paper discusses the importance of energy efficiency in machine tools. The concept of “energy efficiency” and approaches to assessing the energy efficiency of machine tools are defined. Common factors that influence energy consumption in machine tools are identified. The classification of energy consumption in a machine tool in terms of structural elements, state and motion parameters is given. One of the most important indicators of energy efficiency is an integral index, which allows evaluating all kinds of energy transformations during the technological process on a machine tool.
