Abstract: Abstract Understanding farmers’ perceptions of technology use in their processes is essential for developing accurate strategies and selecting appropriate technologies to support their production and trade. This understanding requires characterizing the current technologies they have access to and exploring their understanding of issues such as usefulness, cost, and trustworthiness of managing processes through technological devices. The aim of this research is to understand farmers’ perceptions of the use of new technologies as an important issue for proposing new usable and effective strategies focused on negotiating and trading their products. To this end, semi-structured interviews were conducted among a group of smallholder farmers living in a small community called “El Patio,” part of the district of San Cristobal in Medellin. The results were analysed to identify the main barriers they face in terms of technology adoption and the hidden enablers that can enhance the use of new technologies.
