Abstract:
Abstract Climate change is of growing concern and clear understanding and communication between key stakeholder groups is required to make informed decisions. A major sector of focus is the built environment that contributes 40% of global emissions, the need for innovation in this sector will be vital to current national and international targets for 2023 and 2050 as outlined by the IPCC. XR represents a novel system to immerse stakeholders within 3D data and support faster learning, understanding, and decision making. However alternative non-immersive technologies may also offer a viable alternative. This study gathers insight from 47 stakeholders from the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector as well as other professional disciplines to understand what the current attitudes are towards these technologies, what barriers exist, and where future opportunities may lay.
